"Comets Ov Cupid is the solo project of Jason Kesselring, former guitarist and leader of the turn-of-the-millennium era local group Skye Klad. Upon moving on from his post-Skye Klad trio Blitzen as well as moving on from the Twin Cities and back to his ancestral home of Fargo, Jason has been putting his enviable guitar skills to use as Comets Ov Cupid, spanning a wide range of stylistic influences but always remaining within his chosen field of a uniquely modern and occultic Kosmische Musik for our times. Since his music is solitary in nature, Jason's live appearances have been rare and usually purpose-specific. For the Perish performance, Jason's cosmic guitar will be supported in a "rock trio" with Matt Entsminger of Thunderbolt Pagoda on drums and former Skye Klad bandmate Erik Wivinus (also of Thunderbolt Pagoda) on bass. They will be performing a lengthy instrumental suite composed specifically for this event."

Blood Folke and The Night played Perish07. Perish is every third Thursday of the month at The Kitty Cat Klub. This was Blood Folke's debut public performance? Several people in the room were confused by the notion of this immediately after the band finished. The tightness and precision with which they played suggested they had been booking shows for some time now. The week proceeding the show I was telling people that this was the best local set I had seen all year. A month and a half later that statement still holds true. Thanks to the band and the KCK for allowing this recording to happen. Thanks to J.M. for all of his efforts in post.

Happy Is The New Sad.

Last night I hit The Triple Rock to capture HeatdeatH's set. They left many a body in their wake. I know in my heart that Deerhoof was amazing but I needed to keep moving on to The Kitty Cat Klub for Perish06. Ones and zeros of the Hollow Boys debut exist...so glad I caught that. Mesa Pizza: 1 slice Chicken Pot Pie & 1 slice Gyro. Good friends make life easier. My contacts and I slept on Ben's couch. Over and out.

I haven't been near a computer since Friday afternoon and it's been lovely.

Missed dredg and Codeseven at the Cabooze last Wednesday. Just wasn't in the mood to head down there. dredg will be releasing a new album at the end of March though. Perish03 featuring CLAPS, Aaron and the Sea, DJ TRL, Compound and DJ Ghoul Talk was well worth the trip to Dinkytown.

Back in September I was invited to record the last ever Military Special show that went down at The Entry on Friday night. This was an assignment that I gladly accepted. From start to finish it was a great night of live music including sets from Lucy Michelle & The Velvet Lapelles, Phantom Tails, Estate and Dada Trash Collage. In other news, P.J., being the good fellow he is was able to record Nomia, Canyons of Static, and Lynxxe at The Whole. Look for those sets in the future.

Then we had another Saturday night with 5 or 6 shows to choose from. I narrowed it down to City on the Make at The Dakota, the Every Wall Will Fall event at The Turf Club and Os Mutantes were also playing The Cedar. To be completely honest the City on the Make show had been bumped to the top when I heard about it one loud evening at Palmer's a month prior. Then the freezing rain and a general sense of laziness set in. Please tell me you recorded City on the Make's third ever Dakota Late Night installment? Please?

It's been a pretty rough week but on Tuesday I was able to record Ben Weaver performing his new album in it's entirety at Hymie's Records. It was a nice time and I look forward to more in-stores there. I thought it would be neat to get it posted that night but I ended up watching Boardwalk Empire. I was going to post it last night but I was fortunate enough to get invited over to Lake & Bloomington for homemade pizza. It was good hanging with friends. Thank you.

Tonight I think I'm going to head to the Minneapolis Institute of Art to catch Vampire Hands. Word is they will be playing one set as a three piece and one set with Colin. Since this is supposed to be over by 9pm I'll see you at the Kitty Cat Klub for Perish featuring Zombie Season and Safewords (debut performance) plus DJs throughout the night. Safewords features Jeremy Ward, Jed from CLAPS and Colin from The Sinks. That's at 10pm and there is no cover.
