So one of my favorite bands came through town last night for the first time since September '07 (LMA download link). You can be sure that it was a good night all around, especially with a bill consisting of Red Sparowes (Los Angeles), Caspian (Beverly, MA) and Fang Island (Brooklyn). Do not miss this tour. Well, since it's almost over chances are you may have. Don't worry, Caspian is constantly touring. This includes 25 dates in Europe this May. Caspian's second album "Tertia" was released last year through The Mylene Sheath. Thanks to the band and to The 400 Bar for allowing this recording to happen. Caspian has other live recordings available for free download on The Live Music Archive.

Be sure to tune in to Nowlikephotographs and Radio K (770AM/100.7FM/104.5FM) this Monday at 8PM Central for an interview with the band from the basement of the 400 Bar. I believe interviews were also conducted with Red Sparowes and Fang Island. Nowlikephotographs can also be streamed online.

I'm also excited to annouce that Caspian will now be making ONE list spot available for anyone interested in recording the show no matter which continent they may happen to be playing that night. First come first served. This is of course dependent on the venue's existing policies which may prohibit recording. This offer may also not apply to festivals or tours where Caspian is supporting in which recording is not allowed. Please contact me at the email address above for more information. Your interest is appreciated by both the band and myself. - John

01. ...intro
02. Buildings began to stretch wide across the sky, and the air filled with a reddish glow. [7:36]
03. A message of avarice rained down and carried us away into false dreams of endless riches. [7:47]
04. Like the howling glory of the darkest winds, this voice was thunderous and the words holy, tangling their way around our hearts and clutching our innocent awe. [10:24]
05. Millions starved and we became skinnier and skinnier, while our leaders became fatter and fatter. [12:38]
06. The great leap forward poured down upon us one day like a mighty storm, suddenly and furiously blinding our senses. [8:33]
07. Alone and unaware, the landscape was transformed in front of our eyes. [8:06]
08. Finally, as that blazing sun shone down upon us, did we know that true enemy was the voice of blind idolatry; and only then did we begin to think for ourselves. [9:39]

I usually set it and forget it, adding a few db in post if needed but after the first song I decided to gently add a tiny bit of gain. I think it was a good decision. Thanks to the band for being cool with taping/filming and thanks to Chris Avis for everything he's done taping this band since 2004, getting them added to the Archive and getting more people into them. William Elliott Whitmore opened and his set was great as well. Greg and Andy joined him for a song, something they had only been doing for the past few days. What you hear at 0:59 of track 2 was coming through the PA. - Me sometime in March 2007.

The next Archive release is in honor of Red Sparowes's return to Minneapolis which is part of their headlining tour of the US & Canada. Caspian will be there to support them. Caspian is another band that I've been waiting a few years to return so seeing these bands on the same bill means a lot to me. - 3/2/10.

Caspian Returns to Minneapolis...

Yesterday I received reliable information that Caspian (Beverly, Massachusetts) will be returning to Minneapolis on April 9th 2010. Empires (Minneapolis) and Arms and Sleepers (Boston) are set to support. Word is this may go down at The Triple Rock but that is still to be confirmed.

Empty's Tapes was there to document Caspian's first visit to Minneapolis back in September 2007. That recording is available for free via The Live Music Archive. Several other Caspian recordings are available on the Archive here.

Caspian @ The Triple Rock

I had been wanting to see these guys for a long time. Great show Thursday night. Here's a torrent of Caspian's set.

The whole bill was tight. Constants (Boston), Empires (Minneapolis) and Battlefields (Minneapolis) also played.

I almost put a normalized version out there but the peaks are very nice in the -2.5dB to -0.1dB range with zero clips so the purist in me said to leave it be. Really happy with the turn out on this. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet and extremely open taping. Five other shows can be downloaded on the Archive. You don't want to miss this tour.

Go tape this band! Run, don't walk.
