Selected tracks from an eleven song set. There was a lot going on the evening of the 12th but I'm really glad that I caught this show. Me And My Arrow (Minneapolis) and Hooray For Earth (NYC) supported. I probably wasn't recording shows the last time Grandaddy played Minneapolis and unfortunately I haven't gotten to see Earlimart but there are tapes floating around of both of Jason's stops through town. It's always worth heading out to put microphones up in the business of one of my favorite people from Modesto. Get ready Japan.

...Pabst Blue Ribbon and Bedlam Theater are proud to present the PBR/Bedlam Blowout, a goddamn huge party with so many facets it’ll make your head spin. You will experience pick slides, mash ups, fire, goats and more on September 3rd, 2010. Doors at 7:30. $5-$10 donation suggested at the door. All proceeds to benefit the Bedlam Theater on their future endeavors.

So much to talk about, so little time. This is a celebration of and for the Bedlam Theater and their mission of championing the odd, the free thinking, the fringe. The night will start musically with G-Biz, Phantom Tails and the always entertaining Brass Messengers will guide you on a quick field trip to the parking lot where the Infiammati Fire Circus will be utilizing a beds of nails and glass, plugging in the electric lady act and bullwhipping while on FIRE. Keep back ten feet please. The Brass Messengers will then lead your eardrums back to the Bedlam to experience the mash ups of The Hood Internet y’all. After your eardrums have been mashed, prepare them to be shredded to ribbons by Pink Mink, then pounded into oblivion by the heaviest band in the Midwestern land, Rifflord.

On the upper patio, Dreamland Faces will be plucking and crooning for a set or two, serenely serenading several roast goats and sauces that will be available for your noshing pleasure. There will be special sideshows sporadically happening throughout the space all night and you can capture all of your unimaginable joy in digital format throughout the night at our makeshift photo booth.

The fireplace room will be converted into a wolves den art installation by our friends at CO Exhibitions with DJs spinning in this unnatural habitat throughout the night. Overproof will be on hand screening free t-shirts to commemorate your evening of animalistic debauchery. And last but surely not least, PBR Tall boys will be available in gargantuan quantities for your drinking pleasure.

So You Stopped In For An Update?

Maybe I shouldn't flatter myself but thanks for stopping through here. I've been getting settled into a new neighborhood. Less recording, more hanging out. Unfortunately most of the pretty girls around the block seem to either smoke cigarettes or cocaine or both. I'm not into either...disgusting.

Was nice seeing Phantom Tails, Food Pyramid, Tickle Torture, Suicidal Thoughts at the old Arise! location, now home to Boneshaker Books. Thanks Deep Cookie and the Balloon Fortress. Last Saturday was the Funeral and the Twilight's "The Cross of St. Peter" EP release show with Hawks & Oxen, Kitty Rhombus and Cemetery Improvement Society at the Hexagon. Last night Harris and I went to the last ever event at Art of This which featured stellar sets from Take Acre: Rich Barlow, Jaron Childs, Charles Gillett & Davu Seru and Paul Metzger & Davu Seru as well as George Cartwright, Andrew Broder & Tim Glenn. We'll look forward to AoT relocated somewhere else around town.

OMG, last night Lady Gaga was at the Turf. Blah Blah Blah. I'm mainly happy for the Turf spending a minute in the "headlines" and some friends who are into it getting to gush but that's all I've got on that.

In closing, I don't know if I'll post any of The Glitch Mob tracks because I don't know if their label would sue me? Look for some Admiral Radley soon though.

Maybe A Little Friday Rambling?

Nothing has been recorded yet this week but I did witness some good live music. On Tuesday The Funeral And The Twilight scooped me up in their righteous van. It's an old hospital van that has a lift in the band for loading/unloading gear. Of course I wasn't feeling "good" about this being the last Poor Weather Club show but it felt good to be in the room for it. I've known about and enjoyed PWC and TFATT for a bit now but the two surprises of the evening were Raccoon Raccoon and The Great Confinement. No offense intended to the other stellar bands on the bill but it was my first time seeing The Great Confinement and they kind of stole the show for me.

There were so many shows that I wanted to catch on Wednesday but running on very little sleep I decided to keep things in the neighborhood. The Balloon Fortress was hosting a show at the old Arise! Books location which will soon be home to Boneshaker Books. Caleb from Bouncer Fighter had his art up from the previous night's opening. Cole (Daughters of the Sun, Camden) opened things with his new project Suicidal Thoughts. Perhaps the set that I was most curious was next. Elliott from Sleeping in the Aviary "made party" as Tickle Torture. Phat beats. For some reason it was my first time seeing Food Pyramid and their set was one of those you wished wouldn't end. Lots of folks around town have been talking about Phantom Tails, their calendar is stacked with shows and now I know why; they take no bullshit. Wish I could have made it to the Entry.

Unfortunately I was a schmuck last night and did not attend Chibalo + Satellite Voices + Seated Heat at the Turf. Chibalo will have a presence in the Archive soon.

I don't think I've made it to bed before 2am since last week at Nick & Eddie but don't worry 'ma, the 40 hour grind is still in full swing. I think I'll be able to sleep a little bit Saturday morning/afternoon.

This past July Whitesand/Badlands released the 2x LP "Seeding The Clouds" through Magnetic Ghost. The album can be purchased directly through the band via their website or through one of various local record stores including; Treehouse, Electric Fetus, Extreme Noise and Cheapo. A high quality digital download is available on the band's site as well.

Whitesand/Badlands, Skoal Kodiak and Haunted House (Lesh Is More CD Release) supported Clipd Beaks. This was Clipd Beaks first show "back home" in almost 3 years and one of their only shows outside of California so far this year. Unfortunately I was out of town for this stellar line up. Enter my homie and fellow live music archiving comrade Jon Davis (he's no slouch of a musician either; ghostband, Haunted House, Black Audience & Poop Smeared Mirror to name a few). The night before I flew out of town Jon was playing the Lightning Bolt show with PSM. Since I was recording this show it was the perfect opportunity to float him the gear needed to record at The Turf. With the help of the legendary B. Batson we were able to secure tapes of all 4 sets. So in short, without the help of J.D. and B.B. these sick recordings would not exist. Cheers fellas.

Pretty Boy Thorson & the Falling Angels (Reunion) @ The Triple Rock

Having recorded Pretty Boy Thorson & the Falling Angels at The Triple Rock in January 2007 and playing the hell out of that tape well into the Summer you could be sure I was going to be in the room for this Reunion/Farewell show. If I were a beating man I'd beat they aren't dead yet but in the meantime you should catch The Slow Death on their upcoming 24 date tour beginning August 24th at Ronny's in Chicago. On this eve The Falling Angels were supported by The Gleam, The Annandale Cardinals and Nato Coles & the Blue Diamond Band. Good people of the Twin Cities your favorite Devaney has a new record out. Here's a note from Martin to us...

Dear Friends,

We recently finished recording and mixing my fifth record with my good friend and producer Mark Stockert (Brian Setzer, Danny Michel, Mark Olson) in Minneapolis. It was done in two major bursts of recording, albeit several months apart. The twelve songs were recorded to two-inch analog tape and mixed down to quarter-inch tape, using beautiful vintage tube microphones. We narrowed the tunes down to a ten song album and I think it's the best collection of songs I've put together in my ten year (ahem) career. I also believe that the best way to get to hear them would be on a beautiful, new slab o' vinyl.

Please understand that this is uncharted waters for yours truly. I've released four CDs in the past and worked hard throughout the whole process: mix and master the album, send it to the pressing company, get your boxes of CDs back, play and tour your ass off, and generally hope for the best. This time out, however, it's a different world. CD sales are crashing and digital sales/file sharing are how many people are hearing music. Some even suggest that the album as art form is dead.

I don't believe it. There are still music fans, myself included, who want to hear a complete piece of work, as conceived by the (ahem again) artist. I believe we've made that record. And so what better way to do so than on an LP?

Hammerhead Recording Update...

So Mr. Davis swung by the Triple Rock to grab "the stuff" needed to document the Hammerhead reunion. Later that night I got a text from JD letting me know that our good friend and engineer extraordinaire H3rb was indeed multi-tracking at the Turf. Anyways, I'm happy to report that both shows were recorded last night, i.e. we get things done up here.

How To Lose Your "Hard Rock Cred" Step One:

Many (I mean MANY) friends and close associates will be attending the Hammerhead show at The Turf Club this evening. Top shelf support in the form of STNNNG and Seawhores will bring people inside from the sweaty Pleasure Garden. Hammerhead played Death By Audio in NYC this past June and will also be playing the SOLD OUT AmRep 25th Anniversary show on August 28th. With that said, tonight's show will be the first and only time the local crowd has seen them in 14 some years.

Friends and associates, I hope the Turf is a blast but I have to catch up with Lytle and Burtch at The Triple Rock. See, they have this new band, Admiral Radley with Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray from Earlimart. I've been asked for the past couple of weeks if I was going to record Hammerhead. As much as I would like to I can't always be in "the spot" to record "the show" but hopefully someone comes through. I'm sure there will be a video camera in the room. Video is where it's at.
