Communist Daughter & Alpha Consumer @ The Turf

AKG 414s in the spot for those who want to know. This was the Second Annual Racktacular Breast Cancer Benefit, this year held at The Turf Club. If this disease has afflicted any of your family or friends a great place to show your support is the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Thanks to all who came out and made this event a great one and of course thank you to The Turf Club for hosting. Music preceding the silent auction was provided by Alpha Consumer and Communist Daughter.

I'll Sleepy When I'm Deady

Even though I haven't heard the recordings yet last night went well. Got to Grumpy's at 5:30 and of course was the only person in the City Club room. I was joined by my pal Todd as I was getting set up. A young lady who likes me for some reason also came down. Mike rocked a trio and I thought it was a great set. I'm glad I went and look forward to checking out the tape. You should check this out next Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30. The wings are delicious! What up Luc. Made it back to the apartment for a short bit before catching the train to The Triple Rock for Alpha Consumer and Communist Daughter. I'm sorry if you missed out but we're talking two of the best rock bands in town on the same bill here. I got word that Perks was being treated well at Nick & Eddie so thank you to MDS for being so kind to the taping folk for the past month and a half. See you next week. I was about to catch up with Perks but two cab fares in one night is silly and it sounded like both shows were ending around the same time. Who else digs the new 8pm doors at The Triple Rock? Note that some shows still have 9pm and 10pm doors.

Tonight it's the second week of the Bitch N' Brown Miniseries at The Nomad w/ Truck Stops Across America, InBOIL and Kicks & Spurs. Unfortunately I missed the first week but my cyborg clone is not finished yet. Sounds like a closer but it's rare that I look forward to seeing all 4 bands on a 4 band bill. Is Country Rock or Country Punk the preferred nomenclature?

The backlog is growing but in 5 year that may not be such a bad thing, eh?

Wednesday With the Triple Threat

Last week I got word that Mike Gunther is doing the Wednesday happy hour residency this month at the City Club room inside of Grumpy's Downtown. I found out in the morning and there was no time to run to the apartment for gear...so I made sure I came prepared today. Happy hour til 7pm including 10 wings for $3.50! Done deal. Music starts at 6 and goes until around 7:30. I was able to catch the last week of Jim & The French Vanilla's residency which included a set by The Blind Shake last month. The City Club is a nice little oasis tucked away on the edge of Downtown. See you there.

After a short run back to Longfellow it's back on the train to the West Bank. Very excited to see Alpha Consumer and Communist Daughter on the same bill at The Triple Rock. I honestly do not know much of Boats but look forward to checking them out. Thanks in advance for the stellar show everyone. From there, depending on what time it is I may try to make it to Nick & Eddie for week six of the Marijuana Deathsquads residency. Much respect to my Elliot Park associate and good friend Perks for covering MDS tonight. I greatly appreciate it, Perks! If all goes well at N&E then Sean and Aaron from Moonstone and Travis Bos (Song of Zarathustra, Chariots & Chibalo) will be joining MDS this week.

Hopefully people out there appreciate the fact that these guys don't get together much anymore. Great set. To be honest I had forgotten how much I love this band. You should probably pick up a record if you don't have any of them. This was a celebration of Steve's birthday. Communist Daughter, Roma di Luna and Building Better Bombs also played.

On this night we celebrated Steve Yasgar's birthday. Steve's lady friend Lee was caring enough to put together a special surprise bill. Communist Daughter, Ela (reunited w/ original line-up) and Building Better Bombs played as well. It was one of the most complete & solid shows from start to finish in recent memory. As you can see this was also a very unique Roma di Luna set. Not only are the duo performances rare these day but the set was full of brilliant covers...some perhaps never performed before of ever again. Have a listen, you'd be a fool to miss this one.

Please check back if you're interested in FLAC files. I also wanted to try to get some of the other sets posted. Ela is close.

Tracks coming soon from...

So the virus that my pc contracted last week has slowed me down a bit (along with work & being a bleeding human). With that said, full sets and or individual tracks from your favorite local bands are on their way. We're talking some No Bird Sing, Junkyard Empire, Guante & Big Cats!, Samosa, Carnage, Ela (reunited w/ original members), Roma di Luna (duo), Building Better Bombs, Communist Daughter, Big Trouble, Black Blondie and Kristoff Krane.

Enjoy the weekend. See you on the West Bank.
