Explosions In the Sky @ Stage AE

Well, you'll notice that this did not go down in Minneapolis and it's tagged "Someone else's tape" so I'm just passing along links to Steve's newly released EITS recording from this past Friday. Enjoy and please thank Steve if you get the chance. Official releases can be purchased through the Explosions in the Sky website. This recording is hosted on the Live Music Archive with the permission of the band.

So while Judgement Day were playing The 400 Bar last night I was recording Marijuana Deathsquads at Nick & Eddie. I'm confident in my decision but as a nod to Judgement Day here's my 2008 recording from The Varsity Theater. Hopefully I can catch them the next time they stop through.

Check out their new video for "Cobra Strike" here. It's great!

First "official" City on the Make show of 2009. Anyone catch Jackie & the Rippers at the Nomad a few weeks ago? They definitely got some of their chops from City on the Make. Massey was worried about a head cold tonight but I think everyone brought their A game. This is no doubt my favorite Combat Zone yet. It's highly likely the new album will be out this year so keep your eyes out for that. The new material is really coming together.

Tom Greenwood of Jackie-O Motherfucker and Whitesand/Badlands opened.

This was a special Roma di Luna Holiday show with the Chastity Brown Band. Both sets were great and the Cedar is a wonderful place to see music. If you dig this recording please consider picking up "Sankofa" - Chastity's new album around town or online.

PS: This really should have been uploaded sooner so apologies for the wait!

Twin Cities Bands on the Live Music Archive

The Live Music Archive is a FREE archive of live recordings for bands from around the world. The Archive covers several "genres" of music. I've had a hand in getting a few bands interested in participating in the project but the first local band was A Whisper in the Noise back in 2006. Themes, Charlie Parr and Trampled By Turtles all have recordings available on the Archive as well.

Most recently Roma di Luna, Kill the Vultures and City on the Make have all joined the Archive. I submitted Abzorbr and Black Blondie earlier today.

Some of the recordings currently available for download are City on the Make's May 15th set from the Varsity Theater. Both sets from Roma di Luna's August 9th appearance at Hosmer Library are available as well. My friend Dean has uploaded his capture of Roma di Luna's June 14th CD Release at the Cedar here.

Bands that are pending include: Dragons Power Up, Nomia, Ill Chemistry, Humanboy, Mouthful of Bees and Empires.

Bands I still wantto ask include: Gospel Gossip, Fat Kid Wednesdays, Ela, Crescent Moon is in Big Trouble, Eyedea & Abilities, Face Candy, Brother Ali, Happy Apple, A Night in the Box, Enemy Entropist, Iced Ink, Pretty Boy Thorson & the Fallen Angels, Sarah Johnson, Story of the Sea, The Millionth Word, Portrait of a Drowned Man (Duluth) and others TBD...

Back when I was still content with just torrenting recordings some people were kind enough to upload a couple of recordings I did for non-Twin Cities bands. Hank III's set from First Avenue June 27th 2006 can be downloaded here. Cracker's set from First Avenue on August 30th 2006 can be downloaded here.
