NBS has been one of my favorite bands since first catching them at The Uptown in October 2008 and I am glad they are receiving the attention they deserve. Welcome to night 3 of the 5 night run that I'm currently engaged in. No Bird Sing and Bouncer Fighter supported Kill the Vultures this evening. Alexei had just flown back from France on Friday but his vocals were top notch and he never missed a beat. Anatomy kept the set tight and moving. I don't believe I've been able to catch up with KTV since 11/14/09 so this will be the first and only 2010 recording that is released. Get it on ze ipod! Thanks to Kill the Vultures and The Triple Rock for allowing me to document this set.

I've been listening to The Gleam for coming up on two years now but for whatever reason this is the first time I've caught up with them live. As was the word on the street they do not disappoint! Don't miss The Gleam's new album due out January 2010. The Gleam, Fuck Knights and Coltrane Motion supported Kill the Vultures. This was a torturous night for live music attenders in Minneapolis. Hank III was at the Mainroom, City on the Make and Military Special were at the Kitty Cat Klub. While I wish I could have been at all three shows I'm certainly glad I was able to make these recordings at The Triple Rock. It was a knock down drag out Saturday night.

I haven't seen them since the "Ecce Beast" CD Release Show last April but this tape is sonically superior in my opinion. Face Versus Pavement...

So I wanted to go to the gym today. On the way there my gym bag got stuck in the front wheel of my bike and I went flying over the handle bars with only the left side of my face to break the fall. Minus most of one front tooth, some of my left face, some chunks of my right leg and what is probably at least a sprained left hand/wright I dusted off. Please note I was sober. A passerby was kind enough to inquire "You straight man? You straight?" Straight as I was I was minus one front tooth and bleeding all over. Did I mention the hole in my new jeans? Thankfully my neighbor and my friend Mike were both willing to take me to the emergency dental place in East St. Paul. It was a trip returning to the old neighborhood under these circumstances. I got nothing but a consultation and some antibiotics to ward off infection. It sounds like a root canal and a cap folks. Please don't tell Tammy.

Anyways would near crippling experience keep me from recording Kill the Vultures at The Triple Rock? It'd take a doozy. I didn't get the nap in but broken face and all I made it out. Sorry I wasn't my usual dapper self, ladies. Coltrane Motion, The Gleam and Fuck Knights supported. I bought Mike a Chicken Po Boy and some ginger ales.

This was a rare performance by Crescent Moon is in Big Trouble. Maybe their second this year? Maybe their sixth ever? You try not to miss these if at all possible but sometimes it happens. Well, if they had to listen to one in 2067 I'd like for it to be this one because the quality is sassy. The performance and the sonics are tops. The BBQ Chicken Po-Boy was delicious as usual. Weeks heading into the show I was torn between archiving the local scene and catching dredg, one of my favorite bands from Los Gatos, CA at the Varsity. Respect to dredg but I could not let KTV's CD Release go unrecorded. Some drunken conversations weave in and out of the tape but so goes capturing an audience recording at a popular show on Friday night. With that said, this has to tie and or beat one of the First Avenue sets as my favorite KTV tape. The sound is crisp and the performance is meaty. That's a compliment, trust me.

Twin Cities Bands on the Live Music Archive

The Live Music Archive is a FREE archive of live recordings for bands from around the world. The Archive covers several "genres" of music. I've had a hand in getting a few bands interested in participating in the project but the first local band was A Whisper in the Noise back in 2006. Themes, Charlie Parr and Trampled By Turtles all have recordings available on the Archive as well.

Most recently Roma di Luna, Kill the Vultures and City on the Make have all joined the Archive. I submitted Abzorbr and Black Blondie earlier today.

Some of the recordings currently available for download are City on the Make's May 15th set from the Varsity Theater. Both sets from Roma di Luna's August 9th appearance at Hosmer Library are available as well. My friend Dean has uploaded his capture of Roma di Luna's June 14th CD Release at the Cedar here.

Kill the Vultures have a number of fine releases out there and all are highly recommended. They've also been working on a new album so keep an eye out for that. Word was they were going to play one new song at this show but it must have been scrapped from the set list.

Oddjobs was a hip hop group formed around 1998 by Minneapolis MCs Advizer (Adam Waytz) and Crescent Moon (Alexei Casselle) and St. Paul producers/DJs Anatomy (Stephen Lewis) and Deetalx (Devon Callahan). Another MC, Nomi (Mario Demira) joined in 2001. Oddjobs split in 2005 but reformed as Kill the Vultures, minus DJ Deetalx. Advizer and Nomi are also not currently playing with Kill the Vultures. Nomi is making music as Power Struggle out in the Bay Area and Adam is in Chicago going to school.

Playing the Doomtree crew record CD release show with I Self Devine. This is probably the best sounding KTV recording I've made out of at least a dozen.

Tracks 13-18 are "bonus tracks." Most of the P.O.S. set has been omitted due to the unreleased nature of the material. I'm sure that's annoying for several people but it has to be this way.

Opening the Dosh CD Release for "Wolves And Wishes." The main stage was not used. A smaller stage was constructed 2 or 3 feet off of the dance floor.
