3PM in-store got started around 3:30 because Jesse was attacked by ninjas on the way. He had to kill them all and defend a woman's honor.
Being roughly 10 feet in front of Jesse this is a pretty nice sounding tape. You really feel like you are there. I was not able to attend the Fine Line show later that evening.
Support The Eagles of Death Metal on tour Fall 08. Many thanks to them for being cool with taping. Thanks to the Electric Fetus and staff as well.

This is the 2nd ever live performance by No Bird Sing, a band that includes members of Hyder Ali and Abzorbr. Many other bands could be listed. Basically these are some talented fellas involved in many different local bands. Casey is not a full time member. The whole set is sick but "Legal Blood Money" is worth your bandwidth alone, which is not available anywhere else. They're working on an EP that may be released in early 09.
I was in the mood to travel light, only bringing a h120 & cable to get a board patch. The house engineer was kind enough to bust his mics out. Thank you B.
Not that it really matters but I skipped Minus the Bear + Annuals + Themes at the Varsity Theater to catch this set and I'm glad I did.

This is a good time for this tape to surface. This was the first of four dates in a short Midwest run with Attention opening for Jonah and then coming back out for a set of Gratitude songs. Unfortunately Jeremy's mother passed away after Chicago. Jonah played Cleveland and Detroit by himself.
So this guy Jonah was in the band FAR from 91-98. Officially went "solo" in 99. He formed New End Original with a different bunch of fellas from 2000-2002. "Gratitude was formed in 2000 by Mark Weinberg (Crumb) and Thomas Becker. Initially called the Collision, the band was joined by Bob Lindsey on bass and Robbie Cronholm (Crumb) on vocals." After touring with New End Original in 02 Jonah took over on vocals. "Gratitude released a statement on November 25, 2005 claiming that they had in fact decided to split after playing one final show at the Ascot Room in Minneapolis two days earlier."
As of October 08 FAR have been playing shows again which is exciting. Jonah has been one of my favorite musicians for over 10 years now. Purchase a cd or a show ticket if you're not familiar with his doings.
Check out Jonah, check out Attention, check out Little Hot Pony.

Here's a tape from the early days and one of the better sounding ones at that. Starting out in 04 I ran these SS mics in a hat but switched to a mic stand in May 2005. I upgraded to a fully open taping rig in April 2006. I'm still combing over my archives to see what I have copies of and what's still stuck on a drive that crashed in July 07. I'll be reseeding some of my favorite stuff and putting some unreleased stuff out there.
A really nice recording of a really great set. This was the farewell tour. Bella Lea (Ambulette) opened. Track 8 was released with the Ambulette set. The rest of this recording is unreleased.

If Vampire Hands and Vampire Weekend met in a dark alley, Vampire Hands would come out victorious no doubt. No Bird Sing @ The Dinkytowner
There's no torrent link because this show hasn't happened yet. I encourage you to check out No Bird Sing, a band formed by Bobby and Joe of Hyder Ali and Graham from Abzorbr. Their next show is this Thursday October 23rd at the Dinkytowner. Kristoff Krane, Sector 7G, Megatron, Bobby James & DJ B Rady are also on the bill so it's a solid show all around.
I recorded the show this past Wednesday at the Uptown. No word on torrents yet. I think a lot of it is going to be put on their page.

I'm usually pretty good at staying on top of the local action but I must admit that Hyder Ali flew in under my radar. When I saw they were opening the Kristoff Krane CD Release I tried remembering where I knew them from and it ended up being fylers for their April 08 residency at the Nomad. Having covered the May 07 Abzorbr and December 07 Mel Gibson & the Pants residencies I can now say that I'm thoroughly disappointed that I was asleep last April. Anyone got a time machine I could borrow? When I checked out the songs online I got pretty excited for this set. Trust me, they do not disappoint. Poor twisted me, another Twin Cities band to Archive for.
What are you doing Saturday October 11th? Hyder Ali and Junkyard Empire are having their dual EP release show at the Nomad with Face Candy opening the evening. With nothing but respect for all 3 bands I know where I'll be.
About the patched audio...let's just say the Entry was crazy crowded and I was busy helping someone out. On another note, I love the Entry but it's one of those small bar venues that can fill up with Chatty Cathys so it's not always the easiest place to pull a good tape. With that said, people were pretty respectful during the set and I'm really happy with the recording. The meticulous taper in me even included Sunrise unpatched as track 7.

Chris is a friend but that's not why I would recommend people check out his debut solo record. Check it out because it's a stellar album from start to finish. Both sets are unique in vibe and feeling. The AA set features a very attentive younger crowd whereas the Late set features folks drinking and getting lose. Chris also recently published his first book entitled the "The Other" which I purchased a copy of the other night and am looking forward to reading.
Early Show:
Mr. Dufax - intelligently crafted electronic music.
Students set - Chris had a bunch of his students come up to perform their own songs.
dial_system - Casey & Graham O' Brien - improvised electronic music with bass, drums and laptop.
Oliver Hart acoustic set - Micheal Eyedea Oliver Hart Larsen on acoustic guitar, keyboards and vocals.
Kristoff Krane - you know, that one guy.
Late Show:
Mr. Dufax
Hyder Ali - This band is amazing and I hope to torrent the set soon.

Max Sparber's review of the CD Release show on How Was the Show
There's a buzz around Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles that is quickly consuming the Twin Cities whole. They released their debut album "Orange Peels and Rattlesnakes" last July. It's a wonderful album and they've already begun writing new songs with plans to record soon.
I ran the mics a little wider than I usually do but I'm very happy with the results. An interesting experiment at the Cedar which many would argue is one of my best sounding venues in the upper Midwest. Many thanks to the band and the Cedar for being cool with taping. Kevin Kling and Orange Mighty Trio also performed.

Opening Cecil Otter's (Doomtree) CD Release show with the Millionth Word. I wish I could provide song titles but track 8 is worth checking this out alone. With that said, I really enjoyed the entire set.

Twin Cities Bands on the Live Music Archive
The Live Music Archive is a FREE archive of live recordings for bands from around the world. The Archive covers several "genres" of music. I've had a hand in getting a few bands interested in participating in the project but the first local band was A Whisper in the Noise back in 2006. Themes, Charlie Parr and Trampled By Turtles all have recordings available on the Archive as well.
Most recently Roma di Luna, Kill the Vultures and City on the Make have all joined the Archive. I submitted Abzorbr and Black Blondie earlier today.
Some of the recordings currently available for download are City on the Make's May 15th set from the Varsity Theater. Both sets from Roma di Luna's August 9th appearance at Hosmer Library are available as well. My friend Dean has uploaded his capture of Roma di Luna's June 14th CD Release at the Cedar here.
Bands that are pending include: Dragons Power Up, Nomia, Ill Chemistry, Humanboy, Mouthful of Bees and Empires.
Bands I still wantto ask include: Gospel Gossip, Fat Kid Wednesdays, Ela, Crescent Moon is in Big Trouble, Eyedea & Abilities, Face Candy, Brother Ali, Happy Apple, A Night in the Box, Enemy Entropist, Iced Ink, Pretty Boy Thorson & the Fallen Angels, Sarah Johnson, Story of the Sea, The Millionth Word, Portrait of a Drowned Man (Duluth) and others TBD...
Back when I was still content with just torrenting recordings some people were kind enough to upload a couple of recordings I did for non-Twin Cities bands. Hank III's set from First Avenue June 27th 2006 can be downloaded here. Cracker's set from First Avenue on August 30th 2006 can be downloaded here.
