I'm usually pretty good at staying on top of the local action but I must admit that Hyder Ali flew in under my radar. When I saw they were opening the Kristoff Krane CD Release I tried remembering where I knew them from and it ended up being fylers for their April 08 residency at the Nomad. Having covered the May 07 Abzorbr and December 07 Mel Gibson & the Pants residencies I can now say that I'm thoroughly disappointed that I was asleep last April. Anyone got a time machine I could borrow? When I checked out the songs online I got pretty excited for this set. Trust me, they do not disappoint. Poor twisted me, another Twin Cities band to Archive for.
What are you doing Saturday October 11th? Hyder Ali and Junkyard Empire are having their dual EP release show at the Nomad with Face Candy opening the evening. With nothing but respect for all 3 bands I know where I'll be.
About the patched audio...let's just say the Entry was crazy crowded and I was busy helping someone out. On another note, I love the Entry but it's one of those small bar venues that can fill up with Chatty Cathys so it's not always the easiest place to pull a good tape. With that said, people were pretty respectful during the set and I'm really happy with the recording. The meticulous taper in me even included Sunrise unpatched as track 7.

Chris is a friend but that's not why I would recommend people check out his debut solo record. Check it out because it's a stellar album from start to finish. Both sets are unique in vibe and feeling. The AA set features a very attentive younger crowd whereas the Late set features folks drinking and getting lose. Chris also recently published his first book entitled the "The Other" which I purchased a copy of the other night and am looking forward to reading.
Early Show:
Mr. Dufax - intelligently crafted electronic music.
Students set - Chris had a bunch of his students come up to perform their own songs.
dial_system - Casey & Graham O' Brien - improvised electronic music with bass, drums and laptop.
Oliver Hart acoustic set - Micheal Eyedea Oliver Hart Larsen on acoustic guitar, keyboards and vocals.
Kristoff Krane - you know, that one guy.
Late Show:
Mr. Dufax
Hyder Ali - This band is amazing and I hope to torrent the set soon.

Eyedea, Crescent Moon (Kill the Vultures/Roma di Luna), Carnage (all over the place), Saturday Morning Soundtrack: Impulse (Sector7G), Ecid (Fill in the Breaks) & Capaciti, Casey & Graham O' Brien (Abzorbr/dial_system), Adam Linz & Michael Lewis (Fat Kid Wednesdays/many others), Kyle Keller.

Max Sparber's review of the CD Release show on How Was the Show
There's a buzz around Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles that is quickly consuming the Twin Cities whole. They released their debut album "Orange Peels and Rattlesnakes" last July. It's a wonderful album and they've already begun writing new songs with plans to record soon.
I ran the mics a little wider than I usually do but I'm very happy with the results. An interesting experiment at the Cedar which many would argue is one of my best sounding venues in the upper Midwest. Many thanks to the band and the Cedar for being cool with taping. Kevin Kling and Orange Mighty Trio also performed.
