Murder by Death is one of my favorite bands so I try to catch them whenever they stop through town. Traditional highlight? Talking with Adam about what looks good on the menu tonight. The guy has no fear when it comes to The Cook's Revenge. Thanks to the band and to The Triple Rock for allowing me to document so many great shows. Their new album "Good Morning, Magpie" is out now on Vagrant Records. Ha Ha Tonka and Linfinity supported.

Ha Ha Tonka supported Murder by Death on their recent stop through Minneapolis. They're from Ozark region of Southern Missouri and they won me over no matter where they're from. Don't miss out when they come back in July. Still working on the set list but please enjoy the recording in the meantime. Their latest LP, 2009's "Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South" is available through Bloodshot Records.

Murder By Death Return To The Triple Rock
Hey hey, one of my favorite bands is stopping through town Wednesday and on top of that they return to The Triple Rock for the first time in two years. They delivered a great set the last time their were on the West Bank playing The Cabooze 10/04/09 with Gaslight Anthem, Frank Turner and The Loved Ones. As much fun as that show was I'm excited to see that they are playing The Triple Rock this time around, which is where we ended up after the show last October.
Murder By Death's most recent Triple Rock appearances include:
04/21/09 w/ Where Astronauts Go To Hide
05/04/08 w/ Dios and Gasoline Heart
05/28/06 w/ Langhorne Slim and Metal Hearts
MBD's new LP "Good Morning, Magpie" was released on April 6th, 2010 through Vagrant Records. It is available through Vagrant's online store as well as the band's official online store.

Murder by Death was the reason I went to this show. The Gaslight Anthem is the reason I bought an advance ticket. It did sell out. It wouldn't be a Murder by Death night if we didn't close down the Triple Rock no matter where the show takes place. Murder by Death, Frank Turner and The Loved Ones supported The Gaslight Anthem. All four sets were very enjoyable. Thanks to the bands and to The Cabooze for being cool with taping.

This was Frank's first show in Minneapolis and holy christ am I glad I was there to get it on record. I had first heard of him when Million Dead toured Europe with Jonah Matranga of FAR in 2004(?). Frank and Jonah toured together again in 2006 eventually releasing a split. I had been wanting to see this guy for a few years now but I honestly had no idea what he would bring to the table live. A truly captivating and sincere performance is what those paying attention in the Cabooze got. If I had the dough I'd follow Frank around with my little black bag and my little silver mic stand. Lomax style. I'm usually not wrong in these matters so I encourage people lend an ear. His new album "Poetry of the Deed" is out now on Xtra Mile/Epitaph Records. Frank, The Loved Ones and Murder by Death supported The Gaslight Anthem. Thanks to the bands and to The Cabooze for being cool with recording.

The Gaslight Anthem & Lookbook
So back in May I entered into a slight obsession with The Gaslight Anthem's "Great Expectations" and their album "The '59 Sound" in general. I'm usually too cool for such sleek poppiness but given the circumstances at the time I indulged this obsession for a good couple of months. Sometime in July I heard they were coming through with Murder by Death and Frank Turner. Wanting to see all 3 acts and fearing it might sell out I went through ticketbastard which I hate to do. I've taped Murder by Death a few times and wasn't worried there. After contacting The Gaslight Anthem's manager I received a very polite No on recording their set but was able to obtain permission to capture the openers.
On a completely different note, Lookbook is releasing their debut LP at the Kitty Cat Klub on Saturday. I'm extremely tempted to break the one cab per night rule and head over to Dinkytown after Murder by Death leave the stage. Regardless of whether I'm there or not I know this will be a great show and I'm sure lots of people will attend.
For now please join me in song...
"And I Saw Tail Lights Last Night In a Dream About My First Wife
Everybody Leaves And I'd Expect As Much From You.
I Saw Tail Lights Last Night In A Dream About My Old Life,
Everybody Leaves So Why, Why Wouldn't You?"

This is honestly one of the best sets I have seen this year. I really look forward to seeing what else Pederson has in his guts. That's not to undersell the band whom really cinches everything together. I was still reeling in oblivion when this tape went down but I'm very happy to host it for anyone that wants to check it out. Don't miss out on "Amongst Friends" WAGTH's latest release. It's available through the band or on iTunes.

Murder by Death support the taping & filming of their shows. Please support them by buying the official releases. Thanks to the band, The Triple Rock and to Dixie. MBD tour constantly so check them out when they roll through town. I ran into Adam at the bar and they are not used to playing early shows at all. He's a glutton when it comes to the Cook's Revenge. I myself prefer the BBQ Chicken Po-Boy. I wish I would have stayed post-show but I had been up since 6AM only to do it again the next day.
Please note that some schmuck spilled a drink about 5 inches to the left of my bag. Therefore, the first song and 1:06 of the second song are patched with the soundboard source. I was very happy with the way this turned out because the sbd mix sounds nice which can be rare. Thus I present you with a complete copy of the show. Enjoy.

There is a pleasant amount of crowd banter that adds to the recording, including the "official dude of the show" who got shirtless a couple of times.
