Gastro Non Grata : Pre Earth Day Confection Carousel.

Gastro Non Grata: Pre Earth Day Confection Carousel
Friday, April 20 Doors @ 8:30, Show Starts 9:30
Tix $8 advance/ $12 door
The Triple Rock Social Club

Greetings Gastronauts. It’s time once again to celebrate separating your trash, riding your bike and winter that feels like late fall. She must be warming up to us and it’s time to say thanks to Mother Earth. Our April 20 Pre Earth Day Confection Carousel comes with a WARNING…

This is a rare Friday night show and no restaurant in their right mind would give us their chef. So we’re setting savory to the side on this one and are bringing in 3 of the most talented pastry chefs in town. So Please, make sure you eat dinner before the show because you will be receiving 3 dessert courses.

Dustan Pinlac of Levain will be the first to establish the base of your sugar rush. Christian Aldrich of Haute Dish will bring the sucrose to the second course and put your taste hairs on edge. James Beard Nominee Michelle Gayer of Salty Tart Bakery will be the one to glaze you off this candy cliff into the abyss of ethereal dulcification.

Each course will be paired with a sample of the bubbly brown stuff from Lagunitas Brewery, there’s even word that we’re going to get one of the few elusive kegs of Waldo’s Ale, an ultra rare Imperial/Double IPA that has only been available in California until now. Corey Shovein of Hohenstein Distributing will be on hand for quality control and Lagunitas craft beer dorkspeak.

The honeyed vocal styling of the Cactus Blossoms will start the night off right on the waltz tip. Heavy Deeds will be bringing their laid back grooves and harmony ambrosia on a journey between your ears to help your second course settle and Michael Gaughan will be performing as Little Dog on Top of a Big Dog to bring your saccharin soaked journey to a close with a dose of perma grin.

As always, Clancey’s Meat and Fish in Linden Hills will be providing carcass for our Dead Meat Door Prize.

Local Author Matte Resist will be on hand to answer any gardening or bike repair questions. He will also be selling and signing copies of his book How and Why : A Do It Yourself Guide.

Tickets are $8 in advance here or you can buy them at the door for $12

The Bloody Gastro After Show in The Entry featured sets from Blood Sweat and Beards, Total Fucking Blood and Bloodnstuff. Brought into The Entry were the delicious left overs from Gastro Non Grata's Raconteur Rendezvous 2. Jeff appeared with this gigantic container of giardiniera and right then I reached an even higher level of respect for the man. The combination of short rib chili with giardiniera and cheese sauce was pretty amazing. Thanks to Gastro Non Grata, Matty and everyone else working The Entry that night. Thanks to Bloodnstuff for allowing this recording to be put online. A few posts back I linked to a couple videos from this set.

Out of the seven bands who played Gastro Non Grata Raconteur Rendezvous 2 in the Mainroom and the Bloody Gastro After Show in The Entry the Sorry OK set was definitely one of my favorites. Thanks to Craig & Jeff with Gastro Non Grata and everyone at First Avenue.

Bloodnstuff headlined the recent after party for Gastro Non Grata's Raconteur Rendezvous 2. I've only caught the one set so far but I don't hesitant to say that they are the best new band I've seen in Minneapolis all year. After talking to several people at the show and around town it's become clear that I'm not the only one who shares that sentiment. Special thanks to Matt at The Entry. My only question is when is the next show?

Cut Me In Two Again.

Who likes options? I'm going to some how find a way to record 2 of these shows. Unfortunately I don't be staying in the Mainroom/Entry all night. That would just be too easy. However, that combination is highly recommended if you're not hauling 90 pounds of gear around and trying to be fair.

Now we got a band that even I've been sleeping on. After recording them earlier in the month at The Turf Club there was no way I was going to miss a collaboration with Gastro Non Grata at one of my favorite establishments. How about all of the amazing events that Gastro Non Grata hosts around town? 4onthefloor's 16 track debut is available on iTunes and Amazon or at shows. The vinyl will be released April 2nd at The Triple Rock Social Club.

"Gastro Non Grata has been busy sowing the seeds of knowledge bombs of the best local chefs, purveyors of the finest libation and lots of dirty rock and roll into your skulls for over four years. This fall we reaped such bumper crop of good times we have to make it a two day soiree with all proceeds to benefit our friends at the beautiful Ritz Theater in NE MPLS. That’s right, two days of the finest this city has to offer in chef driven food, locally owned alcoholic beverages and uber-talented musicians.

The November 12 show features chef Philip Becht (Modern Café) and Erik Anderson (Seachange) pairing foods with Crispin Cider while DJ Pat Dwyer (Grumpy’s NE) spins the hits and makes your fingers snap. Bands in order of appearance Magic Castles, Unknown Prophets, Tyler Burkum and Me and My Arrow.

November 13 brings the flavor with Phil Becht again, flanked by and Steven Brown (chef/owner of soon to be Tilia) on vittle patrol with our friends from Fulton Beer and Grape Beginnings. Cakeeater Bakery will also have something for your sweet tooth on hand. In between sets DJ Solid Gold plays the music that keeps hope alive. Music by Black Audience, Phantom Tails, Rude Girl, Marijuana Death Squads and Pink Mink.

We’re also proud to announce we’re bringing the meat raffle back for both nights with our friends from Clancey’s Meat and Fish and a bevy of local NE establishments throwing their wares into the prize vaults, so bring extra cash for raffle tickets.

Gastro Non Grata is a labor of love co-sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon, Modern Café, Cakeeater Bakery, Fulton Beer, Crispin Cider, Grape Beginnings, Metro Magazine and Heavy Table.
