Out of the seven bands who played Gastro Non Grata Raconteur Rendezvous 2 in the Mainroom and the Bloody Gastro After Show in The Entry the Sorry OK set was definitely one of my favorites. Thanks to Craig & Jeff with Gastro Non Grata and everyone at First Avenue.

Someone Said This Week Will Be a Good Week

I'm sure, actually, I know that there's other amazing shows to check out this week but here's what I'm catching...

Tuesday the 16th:

The Appleseed Cast stop into The Triple Rock to play "Low Level Owl Volumes 1 & 2" in their entirety. Who in their right mind would miss this tour? Chicago's Dreamend are supporting on this tour. This Triple Rock show happens to be at 5pm.

Wednesday the 17th:

I'm looking forward to another double banger of a Wednesday. Definitely checking out Mike Gunther's happy hour set at the City Club located inside Grumpy's Downtown. This goes down from 6pm to 7:30ish. I believe this is happening 3/17, 3/24 and 3/31 if you're interested in checking it out. I'm excited to return to Nick & Eddie for Marijuana Deathsquads later that night. Thanks again to Perks for covering N&E last week.

Thursday the 18th:

The 331 Club grows on me more and more after each visit. They've got a great bill on Thursday that includes; Poor Posture, The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs, Teenage Moods and The Drug Budget.

Friday the 19th:

The Soviettes reunite at The Turf Club! Gateway District, Awesome Snakes (Last Show!) and That's Incredible support. If you're across the River Friday night I would highly recommend checking out the Anti-Civ Records Showcase at Memory Lanes which includes sets from; Bouncer Fighter, Zombie Season, Sorry OK, Ogre Smash Death Boom and Hangun Man.

Saturday the 20th:

No Bird Sing, The Alarmists and Paragraphs at The Triple Rock!

Bouncer Fighter is one of the best bands in Minneapolis. Bouncer Fighter is one of the best bands in the region no doubt. You might consider picking up the debut album. Even though I have a copy of the album sitting beside me I'm too lazy to match up song titles right now. Since Caleb is in between computers at the moment we'll get you the set list later. Tom Waits and Daniel Johnston covers are included. I have listened to this a number of times and I'm not so sure a recording at The Hexagon can sound much better. It's definitely one of my favorite recordings of the year. Hawks & Oxen and Children Of Euler opened the evening. Long live The Hexagon.

8 "Shows" in 5 days?

It all started last night with the 3rd week of the Wednesday night Marijuana Deathsquads at Nick & Eddie. Now, I'd really like to make it to The Hexagon tonight to record Sorry OK but I'm on the fence about closing the Hex three nights in a row. I realize some people may do this all the time but not so much while recording the bands and making sure expensive equipment gets home safely. So if you're not charging batteries for the weekend you should check out Sorry OK + Shakedown City + The Boys N' The Barrels + Porch Knights at the Hexagon TONIGHT.

What is known for certain is that on Friday I plan to run the main rig at the Hex for the Bouncer Fighter CD Release w/ Children of Euler + TBA while also running a smaller rig at Memory Lanes for Sleeping in the Aviary + Me and My Arrow. It'll be a champagne jam Seward style. On the books for Saturday is catching Andrew Broder's opening set for Retribution Gospel Choir at The Triple Rock and then breaking down as quickly as possible to catch a cab to the Hex. Sorry RGC but nothing will stop me from recording The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs CD Release. If this go well I hope to arrive in time to capture Knife World. Getting set up in time for Dark Dark Dark shouldn't be a problem...really looking forward to all three sets so we'll see what happens.

On the Sabbath I'm pretty jazzed at the opportunity to record at The Cake Shop again. This month's show features an intimate sit down with The Pines including the ever popular 4pm and 7pm sets format. As with last's months show with Jeremy Messersmith I'm in for both!

This Saturday February 20th there is a very important show at The Hexagon (2600 27th Avenue South) in Seward, Minneapolis. The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs release their debut LP through Anti-Civ Records. This is also Luc's annual birthday show so if you appreciate him as a person perhaps you might consider buying him a drink and or buying his record? An earthquake in Illinois could not shake this evening's support loose. Be sure to arrive early to avoid missing Dark Dark Dark and Knife World taking the stage. In short, The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs are my favorite local band of 2010 but I reserve the right to make that official until it is known how many units they can move. Thanks for reading and I sincerely hope to see you at The Hexagon this Saturday.

Bouncer Fighter + The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs CD Releases

It's true, there will be other great shows going on around town the weekend of the 19th but you'll find me staked out down the street at The Hexagon. On Friday February 19th Children of Euler and TBA will support Bouncer Fighter as they release their long awaited debut LP. Be sure to stop back over Saturday February 20th for Luc's annual birthday show which is also doubling as The Martyrs debut LP release as well. Get there early for rock solid support in Dark Dark Dark and Knife World. I cannot wait to hear both of these releases which will be available through Anti-Civ Records.

What are you doing the weekend of the 19th?

This turned out surprisingly well for a Memory Lanes tape. Yes, there are people bowling but just close your eyes and pretend you're floating around with a white russian. The awesomeness of the music drowns out much of the background action. I actually like this recording a lot. Check out COE's next show! Other Ass Records recording artists include; Totally Harsh, Daisy's Compact Mice, Pocket Pu$$y, Terracide & Sharp Teeth. This show was with Bouncer Fighter, Terracide & Slain. Memory Lanes: Home of the good night especially on Mondays.

Friday South of Franklin

Tonight we hung with the Anti-Civ crew at Memory Lanes for much of the evening. Sundowners, Ogre Smash Death Boom, Poor Posture & Prince Bob Dylan played. I made sure there was time to head to The Hexagon for Communist Daughter's set. I like this band tons and can't wait for them to finish a new record. It was frickin' cold on the way back. The Kaplan Bros thermal can only work so much magic. I guess it's finally time to pull out the winter coat. We had a good run November.

Damn. Another "must tape every time they play" band. I think I should see someone because after 5 years this is turning into a serious drug. This was a benefit show for Kate Kibby's legal defense fund. You can learn more about that cause here. Chikadee Mountain Martyrs, Poor Weather Club and Myrrh supported Children of Euler. If you appreciate the music coming through your speakers please consider a anticivrecords.com purchase. The Bedlam Theatre is a good place to stop when in the neighborhood.

Anti-Civ Showcase @ Memory Lanes

Please feel free to hit Memory Lanes this evening for the Anti-Civ Records Showcase. A good time and even better musics are guaranteed.
