Bloodnstuff - "A Fire Out At Sea" @ Hell's Kitchen

Bloodnstuff
Hell's Kitchen
Minneapolis, MN
Saturday August 13th 2011

This Recording is for Promotional & Archival Purposes Only.

"A Fire Out At Sea" (320kbps mp3)
"A Fire Out At Sea" (FLAC)

With a Gun For a Face, Bouncer Fighter and Hardcore Crayons opened up the evening. A serious bill. I was pretty disappointed when a bad optical cable cost me a Bloodnstuff set at The Nomad a couple of weeks ago but they sounded huge at Hell's Kitchen last night. Definitely one of the better bands I've seen come out of Minneapolis this year. I'm not going to post the full set because these songs are still unreleased and Ed was already cool enough to greenlight The Entry (07/09/11) being put up. Keep a lookout for the next Bloodnstuff show.

Usual HK set up with hypercardioids rolling and mild compression done in Sound Forge 10.

Some Tracks From Red Hot (and a Oaxacan tamale).

Got to Stevens Square Park just after 2:30. Humid. Sticky. It eventually got a little bit better. Stop to talk with Buns at her booth for a minute before heading over to the "Lower" stage. I saw my friend Nikki setting up but had no idea she would be there. "Nikki, which band are you playing in today?" - "The Discord Syndicate! We go on at 3." Jesus, that girl can sing. I wasn't familiar with anyone else in the band but they were tight and I would definitely check them out again. I knew Nice Purse was on next at the "Upper" stage so with little to no break down I carried my gear through the park. I'm always up for a Nice Purse set. I started to somewhat worry about getting back (a whole 500 feet?) for Bouncer Fighter. No worries with the help of the always awesome J.Castro. Bouncer Fighter of course brought it. So much so that they blew a circuit. Nightosaur is next? Yes, yes of course I'm recording Nightosaur. Thanks to the Red Hot Art Festival for the gorgeous Saturday afternoon.

Nice Purse - Radical Roses (07/30/11)

Bouncer Fighter - Garbage Men of the Galaxy (07/30/11)

During all of the sunny park action I found time to stop my the La Loma stand for a Oaxacan tamale which consisted of "spicy chicken" wrapped in a banana leaf instead of the traditional corn husk. Very delicious and definitely recommended if you're into pollo or tamales.

The event, free and open to the public, also provides a way to reclaim the park for neighborhood residents and local families. Our mission is to celebrate the artistic diversity and urban vibrancy of Minneapolis in the historic Stevens Square-Loring Heights neighborhood. Red Hot Art is presented by the Stevens Square Community Organization (SSCO), one of the longest running community organizations in the city.

Each Summer, Red Hot provides an ideal opportunity for artists of all mediums to showcase their work, and brings together 3,500 community participants. This year the festival will host up to 100 booths dedicated to visual artists, 28 musical acts to play on two stages, food from local vendors, and many local community organizations providing hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.

Bouncer Fighter - "Corpses on the Wall" Live (05/19/11)

A little something to listen to during the Rapture from the mighty Bouncer Fighter. Caleb writes some of the all time top lyrics this side of the Mississippi. A few nights ago down in Hell's Kitchen Bouncer Fighter, Nightosaur and Colder in Moscow supported Sorry OK at the release show for their new album Piss Our Names In The Snow recorded live at The Nomad by some guy you may or may not know.

Bouncer Fighter - "Corpses on the Wall" (Live at Hell's Kitchen 05/19/11)

"g-d fell from the sky with a hole in his heart and with his last dyin' words he said tear this place apart."

Welcome to night 3 of the 5 night run that I'm currently engaged in. No Bird Sing and Bouncer Fighter supported Kill the Vultures this evening. Alexei had just flown back from France on Friday but his vocals were top notch and he never missed a beat. Anatomy kept the set tight and moving. I don't believe I've been able to catch up with KTV since 11/14/09 so this will be the first and only 2010 recording that is released. Get it on ze ipod! Thanks to Kill the Vultures and The Triple Rock for allowing me to document this set.

Bouncer Fighter is one of the best bands in Minneapolis. Bouncer Fighter is one of the best bands in the region no doubt. You might consider picking up the debut album. Even though I have a copy of the album sitting beside me I'm too lazy to match up song titles right now. Since Caleb is in between computers at the moment we'll get you the set list later. Tom Waits and Daniel Johnston covers are included. I have listened to this a number of times and I'm not so sure a recording at The Hexagon can sound much better. It's definitely one of my favorite recordings of the year. Hawks & Oxen and Children Of Euler opened the evening. Long live The Hexagon.

8 "Shows" in 5 days?

It all started last night with the 3rd week of the Wednesday night Marijuana Deathsquads at Nick & Eddie. Now, I'd really like to make it to The Hexagon tonight to record Sorry OK but I'm on the fence about closing the Hex three nights in a row. I realize some people may do this all the time but not so much while recording the bands and making sure expensive equipment gets home safely. So if you're not charging batteries for the weekend you should check out Sorry OK + Shakedown City + The Boys N' The Barrels + Porch Knights at the Hexagon TONIGHT.

What is known for certain is that on Friday I plan to run the main rig at the Hex for the Bouncer Fighter CD Release w/ Children of Euler + TBA while also running a smaller rig at Memory Lanes for Sleeping in the Aviary + Me and My Arrow. It'll be a champagne jam Seward style. On the books for Saturday is catching Andrew Broder's opening set for Retribution Gospel Choir at The Triple Rock and then breaking down as quickly as possible to catch a cab to the Hex. Sorry RGC but nothing will stop me from recording The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs CD Release. If this go well I hope to arrive in time to capture Knife World. Getting set up in time for Dark Dark Dark shouldn't be a problem...really looking forward to all three sets so we'll see what happens.

On the Sabbath I'm pretty jazzed at the opportunity to record at The Cake Shop again. This month's show features an intimate sit down with The Pines including the ever popular 4pm and 7pm sets format. As with last's months show with Jeremy Messersmith I'm in for both!

Bouncer Fighter + The Chickadee Mountain Martyrs CD Releases

It's true, there will be other great shows going on around town the weekend of the 19th but you'll find me staked out down the street at The Hexagon. On Friday February 19th Children of Euler and TBA will support Bouncer Fighter as they release their long awaited debut LP. Be sure to stop back over Saturday February 20th for Luc's annual birthday show which is also doubling as The Martyrs debut LP release as well. Get there early for rock solid support in Dark Dark Dark and Knife World. I cannot wait to hear both of these releases which will be available through Anti-Civ Records.

What are you doing the weekend of the 19th?

This turned out surprisingly well for a Memory Lanes tape. Yes, there are people bowling but just close your eyes and pretend you're floating around with a white russian. The awesomeness of the music drowns out much of the background action. I actually like this recording a lot. Check out COE's next show! Other Ass Records recording artists include; Totally Harsh, Daisy's Compact Mice, Pocket Pu$$y, Terracide & Sharp Teeth. This show was with Bouncer Fighter, Terracide & Slain. Memory Lanes: Home of the good night especially on Mondays.
