The Plan.

Post-Blaisdell barbecue this evening will be spent on the West Bank recording the Bloodnstuff CD Release with STNNNG and Marijuana Deathsquads at The Triple Rock. After party at The Bargain Basement Bar in South? Eterna in Northeast?

After a good brunch somewhere I'm heading over to the Midway to record the early Heiruspecs Scholarship Fundraiser Show at The Turf Club. There's also a 21+ 9pm show as well for anyone interested. Should probably skip brunch and have an early dinner at On's Thai Kitchen.

After the saying goodbye to The Turf it's Downtown to Hell's Kitchen for Father You See Queen, Canyons of Static (West Bend, WI) and Paragraphs. Extremely excited for this bill. My first time seeing Mark's new project FYSQ, Canyons is one of my favorite bands and haven't been through town since the October 2011 Empty's Tapes Presents show at HK and I've always loved Paragraphs. First show in a long time! Cheese curds, giant pretzels with jalapeno cheese sauce and chicken & biscuit sandwiches with country gravy et cetera.

All of this will be done without a car. See you in the streets! Three shows, two days, two cities and one river.

Benefit For A Totaled Van w/ STNNNG, Blind Shake & Buildings!

"On Sunday morning, April 15th we (STNNNG) got into an accident on an icy interstate 52 coming home from a show we played in Rochester, MN. The van rolled into the median but luckily didn't roll into oncoming traffic. The van was totaled. We only had liability on the van and now we owe a lot of money. Luckily we have great friends who are willing to play and help us pay down some of our debt. So come enjoy a great line-up of bands and help relieve some of our financial woes!" - STNNNG

How To Lose Your "Hard Rock Cred" Step One:

Many (I mean MANY) friends and close associates will be attending the Hammerhead show at The Turf Club this evening. Top shelf support in the form of STNNNG and Seawhores will bring people inside from the sweaty Pleasure Garden. Hammerhead played Death By Audio in NYC this past June and will also be playing the SOLD OUT AmRep 25th Anniversary show on August 28th. With that said, tonight's show will be the first and only time the local crowd has seen them in 14 some years.

Friends and associates, I hope the Turf is a blast but I have to catch up with Lytle and Burtch at The Triple Rock. See, they have this new band, Admiral Radley with Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray from Earlimart. I've been asked for the past couple of weeks if I was going to record Hammerhead. As much as I would like to I can't always be in "the spot" to record "the show" but hopefully someone comes through. I'm sure there will be a video camera in the room. Video is where it's at.

Marijuana Deathsquads - "Live at Nick & Eddie (VII)"

(Right Click and Save Link As or Click-Operation)

At the moment the core of MDS is:

Ryan Olson - The Godfather
Benjamin Ivascu - drums
Freddy Votel - drums
Isaac - (currently out of town)

Week seven of the MDS residency featured Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) on vocals & programming as well as Jon Nielsen (Knife World, Moonstone Continuum), Nick Ryan (Leisure Birds), Chris Rose (Vampire Hands), Doug (owner of Nick & Eddie), Adam Burt (Blackcloud Stallionheart, STNNNG) and Ryan Chermack (Death Cube) all wielding their guitars. It was truly something to witness. Many of the musicians that have been involved with the residency over the past month & a half felt it was the best MDS set at N&E yet.

You can catch Marijuana Deathsquads and The New Power Generators every Wednesday night at Nick & Eddie.

Music is being recorded...

...and the next time I'm in my apartment for longer than 70 minutes at a time new recordings will be uploaded. I swear. It's lookin' like another 5 night run and it started last night.

Wednesday: Drew's Birthday featuring Batmen + Marijuana Deathsquads @ Nick & Eddie

Thursday: Heiruspecs Scholarship show @ Central High Auditorium then maybe Puppy Dogs & Ice Cream + Kristoff Krane + A Million Dead Emo Kids @ Sauce

Friday: Too much going on but since Adam is only 7 months older than me and has booked a good show I'll probably be at the Turf.

Saturday: Kill the Vultures + Lookbook + No Bird Sing @ The Cedar and then to the Triple Rock for Songs of Zarathustra (Reunion) + Gay Witch Abortion + STNNNG

Sunday: Gastro Non-Grata at the Triple Rock w/ Unknown Prophets + Bitch N' Brown + Bella Koshka + Noise Noise Noise

This was the second night of the Modern Radio 10th Anniversary celebration. The bill also included Vampire Hands, Skoal Kodiak and a very special reunion of The Plastic Constellations! FT (The Shadow Government), Daughters of the Sun, Chambermaids, Double Bird, and Sheridan kicked off the festivities the night before at The Turf Club. There were cupcakes from The Cake Eater Bakery. I know it's kind of a teaser but I wouldn't want to spoil any future DVD releases. What's up to Schedule Two. Thanks to the bands and The Cedar for being cool with recording.

Modern Radio Celebrates It's 10th Anniversary

Friday, January 22nd at the Turf Club
FT (The Shadow Government)
Daughters of the Sun
The Chambermaids
Double Bird
Sheridan Fox (His Mischief)
21+, doors at 9PM - $7

Saturday, January 23rd at the Cedar Cultural Center
The Plastic Constellations
Skoal Kodiak
Vampire Hands
STNNNG
and more!
All Ages, doors at 4:30PM - $10

To say that 10 years as an indie label is impressive would be an understatement to say the least. Here are a few words from Tom regarding bonus goodies and additional information on the shows.

"The Friday show with FT(The Shadow Government), The Chambermaids, Daughters of the Sun, Double Bird and Sheridan of His Mischief in the Clown Lounge will also include Mr. and Mrs. Besinger DJing. Mr. Besinger is the singer of STNNNG and I don't believe he is a Lutheran. A bonus treat to those who arrive early. Both Pete and I will be baking cookies for those in attendance. Half will be vegan and other half will not be vegan.

This show is $7 and a rare opportunity to see FT(The Shadow Government) play in general and a first time opportunity to see Sheridan do a solo set. The other three bands are just outstanding to see on any given opportunity and this is a fantastic opportunity.

The Saturday show has a few extra bonuses:

1) The first 100 people who pay to get in to the show on Saturday can take their ticket stub over to the Wienery and get $3 off food. If you have ever been to the Wienery then you know that is almost a meal or a good start towards one. This will start after 4:30pm when the doors open for the show. You can bring the food over to the Cedar Cultural Center and we will provide plates to do so.

2) The first 300 people who pay to get in get a free cupcake from the Cake Eater Bakery / Miel Y Leche crew. There will be both vegan and non-vegan cupcakes available. If you have not had the opportunity to try these, then it gives you yet another reason to arrive early.

3) Posters will be available for sale from Aesthetic Apparatus, Landland and Burlesque of North America (we may have some additional folks. Danimal, drop me a line if you are interested). All of these folks have done posters for different events our bands have been a part of and this is a great opportunity to pick them up at the show.

4) Modern Radio will be having blow out prices on some records at both shows and even discounts on recent releases.

We wanted to have some extra things going on to really thank all of you have supported the label and the bands who make our label."

The lineup at the Cedar show will be as follows
1st - Vampire Hands (starting at 5:30pm)
2nd - STNNNG
3rd - Skoal Kodiak
4th (last) - The Plastic Constellations

So we've all been to shows to see certain bands while not knowing much if anything about the opener. It's not very often the opener blows me away but it's always nice when that happens. Dinosaur Jr. people certainly missed out. This was their first Minnesota show but you can catch Wereworm the next time they come to town. Besides the music what else do I admire about this band? None of them own cell phones. I'll buy a record from any band who doesn't own cell phones. Wereworm and STNNNG supported The Blind Shake.

I was vaugely familiar with Egglestone & Falkous's former band mclusky but I had been sleeping on Future of the Left. A friend had asked if I wanted his spare ticket. It was a chance to see what these guys were up to and to also catch STNNNG again. Have you ever felt like you were in the right place at the right time? I'm so glad I attended this show. The band was fine with it being shared online as long as it was a good representation of the show and that I believe it is. Being so close to the PA it's hard to not make a good tape at the Turf unless you're taping a folk show with bar patrons talking over the music. It's pretty impossible to talk over FOTL. Go see these guys and buy a record if you get the chance.
