Gifts From Enola recently broke up so I wanted to pull this out of the Archives. This recording was originally posted in August 2009. No editing was done in 2009 so if you enjoyed that recording I encourage you to check out what Jordan has done here.

Gifts From Enola were booked to play Minneapolis exactly two years prior to this show on July 29th 2007 at Memory Lanes with Nomia but I believe the show got canceled on the Mpls side. They came back the summer 2008 but I was out of town. I was happy to finally catch up with them at The Turf Club. Gifts From Enola, Falcon Arrow and peoplearemagnets opened for Paragraphs.

They have one last show at Bule Nile in Harrisonburg, VA on June 8th.

3500 Harriet Fire Benefit Show @ The Turf

This information comes from Ms. Laura of Cadette but most of us already know about this tragic situation.

Last month, Cadette and Musk Assault drummer Beth Cullen lost her home, belongings, and friend to a tragic house fire. This show is a benefit to help her and her roommates Joe, Dave, and Sadie get back on their feet as they begin the tremendous task of starting over.

Cadette
Oaks
Musk Assault
Regal Treats (New dream poprock group featuring Gordon of Teenage Moods, Ronnie of Miami Dolphins, Jon of Protector the War Pony, Laura of Cadette, and Deanna of Unicorn Basement)

At The Turf Club 05/10/12! $6

Also happening at this show- the "SHOULD MANNY CUT OFF HIS POMPADOUR?" saga will come to an end- the votes with the most dollars decides!

Still feeling generous? Can't make it to the show? Donate anything you can via paypal to 3500HarrietFund@gmail.com

The Plan.

Post-Blaisdell barbecue this evening will be spent on the West Bank recording the Bloodnstuff CD Release with STNNNG and Marijuana Deathsquads at The Triple Rock. After party at The Bargain Basement Bar in South? Eterna in Northeast?

After a good brunch somewhere I'm heading over to the Midway to record the early Heiruspecs Scholarship Fundraiser Show at The Turf Club. There's also a 21+ 9pm show as well for anyone interested. Should probably skip brunch and have an early dinner at On's Thai Kitchen.

After the saying goodbye to The Turf it's Downtown to Hell's Kitchen for Father You See Queen, Canyons of Static (West Bend, WI) and Paragraphs. Extremely excited for this bill. My first time seeing Mark's new project FYSQ, Canyons is one of my favorite bands and haven't been through town since the October 2011 Empty's Tapes Presents show at HK and I've always loved Paragraphs. First show in a long time! Cheese curds, giant pretzels with jalapeno cheese sauce and chicken & biscuit sandwiches with country gravy et cetera.

All of this will be done without a car. See you in the streets! Three shows, two days, two cities and one river.

Thunderbolt Pagoda @ The Turf Club

Thunderbolt Pagoda
The Turf Club
St. Paul, MN
Friday March 2nd 2012

Thunderbolt Pagoda has posted a couple of songs from a recent Turf Club recording on their Tumblr. I've had a great appreciation for this band going back to the year two thousand and nine so I consider it a high compliment that they would take the time to make these available.

Their interpretation of "Black Easter," originally by Sol Invictus.
"The Navigator," the first song written together with Gerard when he joined on bass.

(excerpts from the full set)

This is a 2 track "field recording" as is how things are usually done around here. Any "post-recording" adjustments are accredited to them. Studio releases (2008's s/t debut and 2010's Second Ascension) can be obtained through Mutant Music. Obligatory link to The Facebook.

Erik Wivinus - Guitar, Vocals, Sitar
Ralph Karsten - Mellotron, Analogue Synthesizers
Matt Entsminger - Drums
Gerard-Jean Boissy - Bass

(Thunderbolt Pagoda and Marijuana Deathsquads supported Total Fucking Blood on the eve of their LP Release show.)

The Cactus Blossoms Begin YEAR LONG Residency at The Turf Club!

Last night The Cactus Blossoms began their YEAR LONG residency at The Turf Club. Head down to The Turf every Monday night to catch them play from 9pm to midnight.

Last year The Cactus Blossoms released one of my favorite albums of 2011. It's available to check out in it's entirety on their Bandcamp page and I certainly suggest a purchase if you're as into Traditional Country as I am.

Join The Cactus Blossoms at The Turf Club every Tuesday this month. They play first every night so get there early! Invite yourself on the Facespace in you're into that.

Check back here as well because I plan on posting some recordings from the release show at the Ritz last month...perhaps also a bonus track from the Hymie's Records in-store performance.

Hymie's Record Road Show at The Turf Club!

I was asked to play records at Hymie's Record Road Show at The Turf Club tonight. Sounds like Dave and I will be switching off every hour or so. Stop on down if you're in the neighborhood! Swing by Hymie's Vintage Records for your vinyl needs.

Nate Nelson will also be there serving up some delicious food. He's spent the past year or so building quite the reputation for quality. The following info is straight from him...

This is best Pastrami and/or Reuben you will ever have most likely. People (I'm not naming names) have told me they like it EVEN BETTER THAN KATZ in NYC. I wouldn't argue with them.

Hymie's Dj'ing featuring John Empty starts around 9. 2 4 1 rails from 8-11. NO COVER.

The Menu:

Pastrami - smoked and steamed the day of serving.

Reuben - Corned Beef with kraut, swiss cheese and my own homemade 1,000 island

Vegan Sloppy Joe - Vegans/Vegetarians love this shit!

Coleslaw - Red cabbage and carrots in a creamy onion dressing.

Caraway Rye and Dark Russian Rye from Cecil's.
