It is my honor to be able to hold a "birthday show" at one of my favorite haunts. Huge huge thanks to The Triple Rock and every single music involved. Please stop on done even if you bare know me or don't know me at all. It will be a good chance to hang and enjoy some great music together. It's a Sunday night and lots of people will have to work in the morning. We'll try to keep it a 12:30 night unless of course people would like to stick around a bit longer and make sure the bartender has a good night as well. How's that sound? Special food and beverage items being sorted out!
For anyone actually keeping score I came into the world on 09/29/80 so please feel free to send free pizza to my house this Wednesday. I think I'll take the day off so rest assured the drivers will be tipped handsomely.

Welcome to night 3 of the 5 night run that I'm currently engaged in. No Bird Sing and Bouncer Fighter supported Kill the Vultures this evening. Alexei had just flown back from France on Friday but his vocals were top notch and he never missed a beat. Anatomy kept the set tight and moving. I don't believe I've been able to catch up with KTV since 11/14/09 so this will be the first and only 2010 recording that is released. Get it on ze ipod! Thanks to Kill the Vultures and The Triple Rock for allowing me to document this set.

Off the Record Mixtape 1
Many thanks to Andrew & Jake for having me on Off the Record yesterday. It was a blast. It sounds like that may happen more often.
Two things though: 1) I'm kinda shy and 2) I hate the sound of my recorded voice. Anyways enough about me. When I was asked to pick 4 or 5 local tracks I knew it would be tough to narrow the archive down. I hate to admit this but I'm such a procrastinator that I didn't even put this together until the day of. This is the cd I burned before catching the 18.
I wanted to play inBOIL - "I Miss the War" but Phil screams "I miss the fucking war!!!" at the end. I tried telling myself he said "Goddamn war!!!" instead. I also thought about sneaking WHY? in as local because of Broder, Erickson, Dosh and Herbers etc. but we decided not to play track 11. Tracks 1, 2, 9, 10 & 12 were played.
01. Bird Sounds - "Money and Bones" the Turf 07/22/10
02. Dragons Power Up! - House Fires the Turf 01/14/10
03. inBOIL - "I Miss the War" the Nomad 01/07/10

10. Voytek - "Too Many Girls" the Turf 07/31/10
11. WHY? - "The Vowels, Pt. 2" the Triple Rock 10/07/09
12. Capricorn Vertical Slum - "Period Days" the Turf 06/05/10

FREE Download of the new Guante & Big Cats! mixtape, "DON'T BE NICE"
If you don't know about Guante & Big Cats! you should. Like the Facespace? If you so choose you can like Guante & Big Cats! on there.
The FREE MIXTAPE DOWNLOAD is available here.
Here are some words from Guante regarding this release:
Me and Big Cats! just put out a mixtape. And it's free. It's a mix of brand new songs, a few older tracks and some great live audio of our band. All original beats by Big Cats! Progressive politics, storytelling, punchline raps-- lots of fun. We're proud of it. We hope you like it.
If you've never heard of us, a quick refresher: Guante is a rapper, two-time National Poetry Slam champion, activist and arts coordinator of the Canvas, a St. Paul teen center. Big Cats! is a producer and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Sage Francis, P.O.S., Toki Wright, Abstract Rude and more.
"Guante and Big Cats! create intelligent, political hip hop that mercifully doesn't come off as preachy or self-righteous. It's sobering, demanding your attention like a car crash, yet emotional and alarmingly intimate at times." --Michael L. Walsh, City Pages
"Earnestness can go wrong in hip hop. On this album, it goes very right." --Sage Francis, Strange Famous Records (on the duo’s last album, “An Unwelcome Guest”)
"Giving you something to think about while nodding your head to his nimble, casual flow, Guante could very well follow Atmosphere and P.O.S. in the long line of outstanding rappers to break out from the Midwest." --CMJ Artist Spotlight

This was the Cassette Release Show for "RPG Picnic Time" as well as the debut of Teenage Moods as a five piece. Sleeping in the Aviary, Chelsea Boys and Buffalo Moon made it a good Cause to support. The cassettes are limited and almost sold out at the show so if you'd like to procure one contact the band soon. Even without soundboard vocals to mix in I'm very surprised at how well this turned out and hope you enjoy a listen. Hypers up front for the win. Much respect Ross.

Selected tracks from an eleven song set. There was a lot going on the evening of the 12th but I'm really glad that I caught this show. Me And My Arrow (Minneapolis) and Hooray For Earth (NYC) supported. I probably wasn't recording shows the last time Grandaddy played Minneapolis and unfortunately I haven't gotten to see Earlimart but there are tapes floating around of both of Jason's stops through town. It's always worth heading out to put microphones up in the business of one of my favorite people from Modesto. Get ready Japan.

The Bedlam Benefit Is Tonight!
It's surely fucking sad that The Bedlam Theatre has to leave their prime spot next to the Cedar/Riverside train station but tonight is the night to show your support and help them secure a new location. Tell everyone of facespace that you're going.
I hope you don't mind if I rip this info off from my man Craig...
PBR/Bedlam Blowout
September 3rd, Bedlam Theater 1501 6th Street South
Happy Hour 4-6, show starts at 7:30 $5-$10 suggested donation
(612) 341-1038
...Pabst Blue Ribbon and Bedlam Theater are proud to present the PBR/Bedlam Blowout, a goddamn huge party with so many facets it’ll make your head spin. You will experience pick slides, mash ups, fire, goats and more on September 3rd, 2010. Doors at 7:30. $5-$10 donation suggested at the door. All proceeds to benefit the Bedlam Theater on their future endeavors.
So much to talk about, so little time. This is a celebration of and for the Bedlam Theater and their mission of championing the odd, the free thinking, the fringe. The night will start musically with G-Biz, Phantom Tails and the always entertaining Brass Messengers will guide you on a quick field trip to the parking lot where the Infiammati Fire Circus will be utilizing a beds of nails and glass, plugging in the electric lady act and bullwhipping while on FIRE. Keep back ten feet please. The Brass Messengers will then lead your eardrums back to the Bedlam to experience the mash ups of The Hood Internet y’all. After your eardrums have been mashed, prepare them to be shredded to ribbons by Pink Mink, then pounded into oblivion by the heaviest band in the Midwestern land, Rifflord.
On the upper patio, Dreamland Faces will be plucking and crooning for a set or two, serenely serenading several roast goats and sauces that will be available for your noshing pleasure. There will be special sideshows sporadically happening throughout the space all night and you can capture all of your unimaginable joy in digital format throughout the night at our makeshift photo booth.
The fireplace room will be converted into a wolves den art installation by our friends at CO Exhibitions with DJs spinning in this unnatural habitat throughout the night. Overproof will be on hand screening free t-shirts to commemorate your evening of animalistic debauchery. And last but surely not least, PBR Tall boys will be available in gargantuan quantities for your drinking pleasure.
"Breaking news, our food friends are now making a goat, chicken and vegetable curry to cater to everyone but vegans."

So You Stopped In For An Update?
Maybe I shouldn't flatter myself but thanks for stopping through here. I've been getting settled into a new neighborhood. Less recording, more hanging out. Unfortunately most of the pretty girls around the block seem to either smoke cigarettes or cocaine or both. I'm not into either...disgusting.
Was nice seeing Phantom Tails, Food Pyramid, Tickle Torture, Suicidal Thoughts at the old Arise! location, now home to Boneshaker Books. Thanks Deep Cookie and the Balloon Fortress. Last Saturday was the Funeral and the Twilight's "The Cross of St. Peter" EP release show with Hawks & Oxen, Kitty Rhombus and Cemetery Improvement Society at the Hexagon. Last night Harris and I went to the last ever event at Art of This which featured stellar sets from Take Acre: Rich Barlow, Jaron Childs, Charles Gillett & Davu Seru and Paul Metzger & Davu Seru as well as George Cartwright, Andrew Broder & Tim Glenn. We'll look forward to AoT relocated somewhere else around town.
OMG, last night Lady Gaga was at the Turf. Blah Blah Blah. I'm mainly happy for the Turf spending a minute in the "headlines" and some friends who are into it getting to gush but that's all I've got on that.
In closing, I don't know if I'll post any of The Glitch Mob tracks because I don't know if their label would sue me? Look for some Admiral Radley soon though.
